Welcoming a new baby into your family is one of the most spectacular and unique days of your life, and you want to take in all of the beauty of this incredible day. Like your wedding day, though, your baby’s birthday is such a flurry of beautiful moments that your mind can’t possibly keep it all, and before you know it, some of those memories will fade. A Fresh 48 photo session can give you an everlasting way to bring those memories back to life.
About a Fresh 48 Photo Session
A Fresh 48 photo session is a portrait session in the first 48 hours of your baby’s life. I typically take these portraits at the hospital before you and your baby are discharged to go home, or I can take them at your home if you’ve had a home birth. This unique portrait session is dedicated to capturing your brand-new baby at their tiniest and capturing your memories of the birth experience.
Fresh 48 vs. Newborn Photography: What’s the Difference?
You’ve probably heard of newborn photography but not as many people are aware of Fresh 48 photograph as an option. They might seem similar but they have key differences.
Fresh 48 photography focuses on the immediate birth experience and the magic of meeting your precious baby for the first time. It forever preserves those first hours you spend together - that time before you’re back into the reality of the world, before your mind is thinking about work or cleaning the house or any logistics, while you’re still relishing the moment of welcoming your baby.
Newborn photography, on the other hand, is taken within the first four weeks of your baby’s life, but not in the first couple of days. We take these portraits after everyone is home from the hospital and you have started to settle into life with your newborn.
Both of these types of portraits are incredibly special and honor a once-in-a-lifetime part of your life. Some families choose one or the other, and some families choose to do both.
How to Prepare for a Fresh 48 Photo Session
If you have a baby on the way and you’re considering a Fresh 48 photo session, planning ahead will create the best experience for everyone. Contact my Bucks County portrait studio to book your session, ideally a few months before your baby is due. I’ll pencil in your due date and when your baby arrives, you’ll reach out to me to finalize a time. Make sure you talk to the hospital in advance too, as some are still limiting visitors to reduce the risk of COVID-19.
When it’s time for your session, you can prepare yourself in any way you’re comfortable. You might want to do your hair and makeup or you might prefer a more natural look for these particular portraits.
